"The Whisky a Go-Go" is located at 8901 Sunset Blvd., in West Hollywood. Valet parking behind the club (entrance on Clark Street).
The POSSIBILITIEIS were formed in 1961, as "Teddy and the Roids", they quickly became one of the most popular cover bands in Evanston, Illinois. Performing to enthusiastic crowds weekly at local hot-spot “The No Longer Inn”, they also provided local backup for such visiting stars as Screaming Jay Hawkins, Arthur Brown, and Claudine Longet. After 1964’s disastrous "American Dental Association" concert (of which the less said, the better) the band moved to Bishop's Lap, Texas under the name "The Royal Family".
There they decided to give up covering tunes by other artists, and committed themselves to writing original material. Months of fruitless attempts were made until bassist Johnny Griparic learned of the existence of a fourth chord. This discovery led directly to their first album, “(The) A Minor Miracle”, and relocation to Los Angeles.
The famed “Sunset Strip” became their home in 1965. But five people cannot live in a car forever, so they moved to San Bernardino, renamed themselves “The Possibilities”, and recorded their second album, “... Are Endless”. The album almost reached #103 on the Billboard charts, and was well reviewed in several magazines. Other records followed – “Something Smells Good”, “Remove All Doubts”, the psychedelic “Soon Sang the Sky”, the rock-operas “Beppo the Dwarf” and “All Hail the Yeast Boys (Part One)”, and their unfairly- maligned live album “Rude, Crude, and Thoroughly Unattractive”.
But, as documented last year on VH-1's "Behind the Music", success had a darker side. Easy money, drug addiction, promiscuity, infidelity, venereal disease, unspeakable perversions, Satan worship – all the things they’d worked so hard for – came to a crashing halt when Brie entered a convent, Dave got his Real Estate license, Johnny learned how to drive a stick-shift, Rudy and Teddy adopted a child, and Phil finally got braces.
For thirty years, the band members avoided all contact with each other, but five years ago Rudy’s meds finally kicked in, and they re-united at The Troubador. Those lucky enough to have been there will not soon forget it, and those not lucky enough to have been there, will not soon remember. But this year, you have the chance to experience the magic all over again, as The Possibilities return for an evening of NO original material – just covers of great tunes from the 60s. Don’t miss this opportunity to re-live the 60’s ... to dance, sing along, get wild, and still be in bed in time for Nightline.
