    Description

This is a unique type of kaleidoscope.  The patterns inside are not symmetrical or geometric.  They are asymmetrical by the specific design of this scope.  It was conceived and designed by Judith Karelitz of NYC.  Her work has been patented and is named/called the "Karascope".   This scope is purple in exterior color and is marked Smithsonian Institution, 1981 Her designs and scopes have been in the Museum of Modern Art in NYC and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington. DC.  There are no colored glass pieces in the tube of this scope.  White light is polarized along one plane and then enters clear pieces of special material that is doubly refracting.  This produces asymmetric designs in the viewing with a myriad of  brilliant colors.  As the tube is turned, the asymmetric shapes change and modify.  This is a wonderfully different artistic type of kaleidoscope.  The scope itself measures 11 inches long by 2 inches in diameter.  It comes in a protective tube that is original to this piece.  This item is in excellent condition with no scuffs or scratches.  I have attempted to take a couple of pictures of the images inside the tube - please forgive my poor photography.   Ship to US only by USPS.  International ship by Ebay Global Shipping
