    Description

    American Jewish jazz guitarist (1923–2004) who was a member of many prominent jazz groups as well as a 'first call' guitarist for studio, film, and television recording sessions. Kessel was a member of the group of session musicians informally known as the Wrecking Crew and played on The Beach Boys album “Pet Sounds.”
    Collection of five original European concert posters from the estate of acclaimed jazz guitarist Barney Kessel, ranging in size from 12.25 x 19.5 to 17 x 24, which includes: a color hand-painted Ronnie Scott’s of London poster, March 10-12; a poster for the Costa Brava Jazz Festival, August 8th; two posters for the Jazz Club Valenza, April 10, 1987, and November 26, 1984; and a Büro Rolf Schubert poster showing Kessel as “The Genius of Guitar.” Also includes: a color 18 x 24 poster for a free jazz workshop by Kessel at the CCP Little Theater in Manila on March 21, 1977; a purple guitar pick used by Kessel; and a stamped custom set of unused GHS guitar strings made especially for Kessel. In overall very good to fine condition, with folds and creases to the posters. Accompanied by a letter of provenance stating that the group lot was obtained at auction and was originally consigned by Kessel’s widow. 5.
